January and February recap

I’m now combining months in the recaps because doing a recap for each month even though there’s not many movies out those months is redundant.

Movies:

La La Land: Really good movie. My favorite song is Another Day of Sun. A-

A Dog’s Purpose: Cute movie I’m more of a cat person. C

The Lego Batman Movie: Really fun spinoff of an also really fun movie. A-

TV Shows:

Lemony Snicket 2017: Really good start to the series. I really like the the productions deisgn on this show. Reminds me a lot of Tim Burton. Though the casting is a bit odd. B

Star vs The Forces of Evil: Really good end to season 2. The cliffhanger makes me really looking forward to season 3. A-

By the way I went to my first comic con in February. I saw Mathew Lewis from Harry Potter, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Conroy, Loren Lester, and I even shook hands with the voice of Mario Charles Martinet.

The Academy Awards were actually satisfying to me at least until the whole Best Picture mix up at the end. The Ben Affleck and guest part had me in stitches LOL.

Top 10 Favorite Animated Romances

valentineHappy Valentine’s Day and in the spirit of this day I thought I would list my top 10 favorite animated romances. It was going to have live action romances but I could think of more animated ones then live action so I just stayed with that. Theses are the couples that I find so adorable when they are together and want to take down anyone who get’s in there way.

10. Star Butterfly and Marco: Come and get me Starco fans. Their friendship between the two is great and the episode Bon Bon the Birthday Clown dives deep into their relationship.

9. Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe: Their relationship is pretty much a character named Garnet. The twist was very well build up and didn’t feel forced.  Their scenes in Hit The Diamond are both sweet and hilarious.

8. Shrek and Fiona: I like how there relationship goes through a lot of obstacles that married couples go through like in-laws or children. Shrek 2 I think is where their relationship really shines because it shows how far he’s willing to go to get the approval of Fiona’s parents.

7. Aladdin and Jasmine: My favorite Disney canon couple. I liked how they are both different and the same. One’s a princess the other’s a street rat yet they both feel trap in there roles.

6. Wall-e and Eve: Pixar showed that robots can have romance. The define dancing scene is romantic and shows the most creative kiss ever seen on film.

5. Aang and Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender: Aang first vision after being frozen his her.Talk about love at first sight LOL. Aang pretty much tells Katara that there is still hope in the world and she will protect him.

4. Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox: I know this is a video game couple but there are animated cutscenes so I’m counting it. Even if it’s kind of a one-sided romance its enjoyable when Sly flirts and fools around with her while she is constantly trying to arrest him.

Number 2 and 3 are both tied due to being very similar and I honestly couldn’t decide which was better.

2/3. Sora and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts: It’s not live action and has Disney so I’m counting it. I know there not really a couple just friends but I always thought they were cute together. The cave scene in the beginning  and end where they carved each of them eating the fruit is very sweet.

2/3. Steven Universe and Connie: The second Steven Universe relationship on this list. I like how there friendship grows throughout the show. Connie started off as a nerdy friend who Steven can share gem information with into a sword fighting protege that will fight beside Steven. Their friendship even created Stevonie.

1. Carl and Ellie from Up: I picked this not just because it’s my favorite Pixar movie but because there romance pretty much sets up a great story for a great movie. The married life scene is wonderful. Without any dialogue shows the life of this married couple in just a few minutes and it is emotionally beautiful. It makes it so heartbreaking when Ellie dies and Carl willing to fly his house to Paradise Falls to complete their dream. That’s why Carl and Ellie are my favorite animated romantic couple.

The Lego Batman Movie review

lego-batman-movie

Sorry for the lack of movie reviews lately. Been busy with college and there hasn’t been that much movies out. I promise more reviews soon.

When the The Lego Movie was announced I was expecting it to be a fun little movie just to sell more legos. When I saw it however it turned out to be not just funny, but heartwarming and adult. It deconstructs the hero’s journey and the idea of creativity wonderfully. The Lego Movie is one of my favorite animated movies of all time. When The Lego Batman Movie was announced I was thinking the same thing as before I saw The Lego Movie, a fun little spinoff to sell legos, but I was surprised again.

The Lego Batman Movie is about Batman played by Will Arnett. Will Arnett is great as Batman. He seems a lot like BoJack Horseman also played by Will Arnett. The rest of the cast is also great. I find it odd that Voldemort is in this movie played by Eddie Izzard even though Voldemort’s real actor Ralph Fiennes is already in the movie.

The comedy is the highlight of the film. This movie is hilarious. There are references, “take that” gags, background jokes, and jokes that you have to see twice to get.  A great reference joke is when Joker mentions the plan with the two boats or the parade with the Prince music. You’re probably wondering what a “take that” joke is. A take that joke is a joke that makes fun of something. An example is Killer Croc arming Joker’s bomb and saying Yeah I did something. This makes fun of that fact that all that Killer Croc did in Suicide Squad was set the bomb.

Who would have suspected that movies about legos would actually be praised? I don’t think this was as good as The Lego Movie though. Still, The Lego Batman movie is a very fun and hilarious movie. I could go as far as saying this is better then all the new DC movies that have come out lately.

Verdict:
+Will Arnett as Batman
+The comedy
+Heartwarming
+The animation
-Not as mindblowing as The Lego Movie

Score: A-

StevenBomb 5: Out Of This World review

For a while I felt that Steven Universe season 4 was more filler then plot progression. That is until this Steven Bomb came out. This was an awesome StevenBomb even if it did leak a month ago. I will now show my opinions for each episode and then talk about the StevenBomb as a whole.

Steven’s Dream: This one is my favorite of the five. I liked seeing Garnet be afraid showing the seriousness of what’s going to happen. I also like how some episodes of season 4 that seemed like filler like Buddy’s Book or Gem Harvest actually served a purpose. For some reasons I always thought of Blue Diamond as quiet and soft sounding and seeing her actually proved my theory right.

Adventures in Light Distortion: A funny but also intense bridge episode (that means episode that connects the previous and next episode together). The ending is like something out of 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Gem Heist: Introducing Holy Blue Agate is great and finding out more about Pink Diamond was great too.

The Zoo: I would say this one is my least favorite of the five. Seeing humans that never seen the earth is interesting and disturbing. Not really much to say about it though.

That Will Be All: After a whole year of waiting we finally get to see Yellow Diamond again. I like that they showed the diamonds in a much more sympathetic way then before. Yellow Diamond’s song was great.

In my opinion I think this is my favorite StevenBomb so far. It has everything I wanted in a Stevenbomb. You get to see new gems, new plot elements, and not just one but two diamonds. The only problem I had with these episodes were that they were leaked a month ago. All these episodes were great and I can’t wait to see what direction this show goes.

Verdict:
+Each episode connected
+World building
+The diamonds
-Leaks

Score: A+
