2018 recap part 1

Recap of what I saw from January to February.

The Disaster Artist: James Franco was incredible as Tommy Wisue. It still upsets me that he wasn’t nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars. A-

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: Not my cup of tea but it did have Oscar worthy performances from Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. B

Mary and the Witch’s Flower: Likable protagonist and beautiful animation. A-

Paddington 2: Sweet and innocent. B

The Shape of Water: The production design is Oscar worthy. I would give this a higher score but the dead cat scene lowered it. B

Peter Rabbit: Taking something timeless and making it dated. That’s about it. D

Black Panther: The best Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since Guardians of the Galaxy. A+

Early Man: Standard sports movie combined with standard Aardman animated movie. C+
Here’s a funny experience when I saw Early Man. The theater room that was suppose to show this showed Every Day. I went to the front to ask what was going on. It turned out to be a goof with the projector that they couldn’t fix that day so they gave me and four other people in the theater each two free movie passes. I did see Early Man the next day though.

Steven Universe Stranded: The dream sequence in Jungle Moon was incredible. Can’t wait to see what happens in April.

Final Space: I’ll write a review when season 1 is over. For now I think its a fun new cartoon.

Holiday recap

Thor Ragnarok: Incredibly funny and entertaining conclusion to the Thor trilogy. A

Murder on the Orient Express:Wonderful performance by Kenneth Branagh. B

Justice League: Great heroes but weak villain. B-

Coco: Best animated movie of 2017 with a great world and great songs. A

Star Wars the Last Jedi: A great continuation to Star Wars. A+

Ferdinand: Your basic animated movie for kids, and also the goat is really annoying. C-

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle: A fun time waster with fun video game references. B

The Greatest Showman: Hugh Jackman’s character arc is nice but the pop songs in the time period seems distracting. B-

Star vs the Forces of Evil: I love how it reverses the status quo. First season had Star on Earth and now Marco is on Mewni. Also Monster Bash has an awesome reveal to one of the characters.

Steven Universe: Good to see Steven again though these episodes were kind of depressing.

Hey Arnold The Jungle Movie: Great conclusion to my favorite Nickelodeon show. A

A Christmas Story Live: I though it was a fun retelling of the classic movie.

Be sure to check my blog soon for my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2018 and my top 10 favorite movies of 2017 lists.

Thank you to everyone who’s followed my blog and have a Happy New Year.

Autumn recap

Happy Halloween Everybody!

Logan Lucky: A fun heist film, though I think it went on little too long after the heist. B-

It: Richie is the best! As for an adaptation, It was pretty good. WA HA WA HA WA HA WA HA. B

Kingsman The Golden Circle: Not as good as the first, but still fun. A-

The Lego Ninjago Movie: Honestly a mediocre movie to sell toys. C

My Little Pony the Movie: It did not deserve a score lower than The Emoji Movie on IGN. B-

Blade Runner 2049: Looks great, but it’s slow, long, and not enough action. C+

Rick and Morty: The finale was a bit of a disappointment but the season did have my absolute favorite episode of the series so far The Ricklantis Mixup.

Bojack Horseman Season 4: Great continuation of the series that dealt more about family than fame. A

I don’t normally do this but, My Mom, her sisters, Grandma and I went to New York City. Papa was suppose to go but couldn’t so I took his place. I saw four Broadway shows there. These are listed in the order I saw them (and also from worst to best ironically).

Bronx Tale: Really good actors playing there roles. To quote the name of one of the songs. I Like It 😉

Hello Dolly!: It was cool to see actors I’ve seen in movies like Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce. Bette by the way stole the show.

School of Rock: Never saw the movie until after I saw the show. The kids were great especially since they actually played the instruments.

Aladdin: The actor playing the Genie was great and the magic carpet was amazing.

Holiday Season here I come!

Summer recap

Captain Underpants: Incredibly fun and funny. A-

Wonder Woman: Ok though best DC movie so far. B-

Cars 3: Probably the best Cars movie though not the best Pixar movie. B-

Despicable Me 3: Entertaining villain though not as much heart as the first. C

Baby Driver: A great story and great editing by Edgar Wright. B+

Spiderman Homecoming: Tom Holland is still the best Spiderman actor. A

War for the Planet of the Apes: Dark and bittersweet ending to a trilogy. B

The Emoji Movie: This movie is meh (ironic since Gene is a meh emoji). I expected this to be enjoyably bad but it was just bad. D

Dunkirk: Short and wonderfully tense, but the way the three stories are edited together makes it confusing. B-

Atomic Blonde: The whole villain twist thing got complicated. C

TV Shows:

The Battle for Mewni: Good opening to season 3 of Star vs the Forces of Evil. Best episode of the bunch was Toffee.

Ok Ko Let’s be Heroes: A fun new cartoon.

Ducktales 2017: Great update on the characters, animation, and theme song. Gravity Falls with ducks.

Rick and Morty season 3: Great season with great epsidoes. So far my favorite episode of the season and maybe whole series is The Ricklantis Mixup.

Spring recap

The Smurfs the Lost Village: The friendship between the four smurfs was nice but that’s about it. C

Fate of the Furious: The best villain of 2017 so far. B+

The Iron Giant: This was showing at Mt Hood theater. I’ll take any opportunity to see a 2D animated movie in theaters. The animation, and story really hold up today. A

Gaurdians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Fun, emotional, and great tunes. A

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell no Tales: Too similar but fun. C+

Samurai Jack Season 5: Great season, nothing else to say. A+

Steven Bomb 6: Great cliffhanger and plot progression I’ve been looking forward to.

Steven Universe Wanted: Great way to start season 5. I wonder who shattered Pink Diamond?

March recap

Sorry for delaying the recap. I was planning on combining March with April and May but since there are a lot of movies this month I decided to split the recap.

Logan: Though a little too grusome for me but still a great sendoff to Woulverine. B

Kong Skull Island: Very good visuals. B

Beauty and the Beast: Not as good as the orignal but not bad either. B-

Power Rangers: Not enough of the power ranges suits but a nice start to a film series. Krispy Kreme! C+

The Boss Baby: I predicted this would suck, it did. D

January and February recap

I’m now combining months in the recaps because doing a recap for each month even though there’s not many movies out those months is redundant.

La La Land: Really good movie. My favorite song is Another Day of Sun. A-

A Dog’s Purpose: Cute movie I’m more of a cat person. C

The Lego Batman Movie: Really fun spinoff of an also really fun movie. A-

TV Shows:

Lemony Snicket 2017: Really good start to the series. I really like the the productions deisgn on this show. Reminds me a lot of Tim Burton. Though the casting is a bit odd. B

Star vs The Forces of Evil: Really good end to season 2. The cliffhanger makes me really looking forward to season 3. A-

By the way I went to my first comic con in February. I saw Mathew Lewis from Harry Potter, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Conroy, Loren Lester, and I even shook hands with the voice of Mario Charles Martinet.

The Academy Awards were actually satisfying to me at least until the whole Best Picture mix up at the end. The Ben Affleck and guest part had me in stitches LOL.

November and December recap

Just to warn you that I’ll be on a cruise vacation for the first week of January so I probably won’t be doing a lot until I get back. Expect my top 10 favorite movies of 2016 list around the ninth or later. Hope you have a happy new year.

Doctor Strange: Fun and trippy though familiar. A-

Arrival: Good but not my type of movie. C+

Trolls: Not as bad as I thought but still not great. C-

Fantastic Beasts and where to find them: Good Follow up to Harry Potter. A-

Moana: This really did show that two Disney movies in one year can both be great. A

Star Wars Rogue One: Did not expect to love this movie. A

Sing: I like that each contestant had a fair share of screen time. B

September and October recap

Happy Halloween to you all! Here’s September and October recap.

Storks: Cute but childish at times. C-

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: Good visuals but weak writing. C+

My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree: Not a fan of the Equestria Girls movie but this one might be there best though. C+

Middle School the Worst Years of my Life: Only went to see the 2d animated moments which are great but the film itself is fun and emotional. B

Magnificent 7: Fun western action that’s very similar to A Bug’s Life. B-

TV Shows:

Bojack Horseman Season 2: Funny and Dramatic, perfect balance. A

Milo Murphy’s Law: Not a fan of Phineas and Ferb but this new show is fun. It has Weird Al as the main character what more do you need? Though I’m concerned about that teacher and her love of that desk. B-
