Kung Fu Panda 3 Review

My first review on my WordPress blog :). Before I start talking about this movie, I want to explain that these kind of reviews on my blog are similar to IGN reviews meaning that at the end I will point out the positives and negatives and give a final score. I did see two other movies this year. Those being Ride Along 2, and Dirty Grandpa. Both were just meh.  I decided to wait to start reviewing because I wanted to save my first review for this one.

The Kung Fu Panda movies are some of if not my favorite Dreamworks animated movies. I even like them better than Shrek and How to Train your Dragon. The first one was fun and heartwarming. The second one was darker, more action, and has Lord Shen, one of my favorite animated villains of all time. It’s actually my favorite of the two. Now we have the third one.

Kung Fu Panda 3 if about Po (Jack Black) finally seeing his real Dad (Bryan Cranston) and travels to a secret panda village to learn how to use Chi against the evil Kai (J.K Simmons) who is stealing kung fu master’s chi. The movie is lighter and softer than it’s predecessor, but is still has funny moments and has a lot of heart to it.

Po is still a very likable character and so are the others. His arc about become the master of the furious five is handled well. The rest of the character are still good but they are however demoted to extra except for Tigress and Mr. Ping, due to becoming victims of Kai. The new characters are also good additions.  Li Shan is a likable as Po’s real father. While Kai is a weaker villain than Lord Shen he still is an entertaining villain. His backstory is interesting too. He has an interesting theme whenever he shows up. He’s played very well by J.K Simmons.

The animation is still great to look at and in fact this might be the most beautiful of the Kung Fu Panda movies.  The music is also great too. The action is done very well especially the climax in the spirit world. The story is more simple than the 2nd one almost as simple as the first one. I will admit I knew where the story was going before I was this. While I don’t think this film is better than Kung Fu Panda 2, this is still a very fun movie that still makes us feel and laugh.

Verdict:
+ Po still great protagonist
+ Ties the twist ending from Kung Fu Panda 2 together very well
+ Beautiful animation
+ Very funny
– Well voiced but still weak Villain
– Other characters put to the side.
–  Predicable story

Score: A-

Practice and Craft

The career I want to pursue is screenwriting. I want to write for the big screen and little screen. I create characters, situations, storylines and I do research to get inspiration. I write my ideas in a folder on my computer. I even discuss my ideas with my brother who I trust very dearly. He also tells me about his ideas for video games and I listen to him like how he listens to me. One thing I could be doing more is actually writing scripts for my projects. My biggest inspirations are Walt Disney, Pixar, recent cartoons like Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and Avatar.
