Spider-Man: Homecoming review

Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can

MCU fans were mind blown when it was announced that Spiderman would be in Captain America Civil War. Like everyone I was excited. When we saw Civil War we were not disappointed. Tom Holland as Spider Man was great and we started to look forward to when he would get his own movie.

Tom Holland still shines as Peter Parker. His suit is still amazing and the scenes where he takes of the training wheels and finds out how much he can do is entertaining. This Peter Parker definitely feels more younger then Tobey and Andrew.

The Vulture is a surprisingly good villain. Micheal Keaton plays a lot of winged super figures. The design of his Vulture suit is great and the ways he uses it are creative. He also has a reason for what he is doing. Spoilers: Toomes turns out to be Liz’s (the girl Peter has a crush on) father. I remember watching this with my brother and he said before the reveal that he thinks he knows whats about to happen. When it’s revealed he laughed.

The supporting cast however is a hit or miss. Peter’s best friend Ned is very likable. Michelle while she’s not in it for much still gives some funny moments though is it me or is she a live action version of Janna from Star vs the Forces of Evil? Aunt May however feels very underwhelming because she’s not on screen as she should have and she doesn’t interact with Peter that much. Toome’s gang also feels weak and just there so that the Vulture can have a gang.

One problem I had though it is a very minor one was in the beginning Toomes decides to keep some of the alien equipment, it then shows text saying eight years later. I notice a error in the timeline. The Avengers took place in 2012 but this movie takes place in 2016 (2 months after Civil War) and it was clearly not eight years later. It’s mostly nitpicking though.

Michael Giacchino who is best known for composing The Incredibles composes the movie and his rendition of the old theme song is awesome. It has the epic feel that other superheroes movies have and it’s fun to listen to.

Spider man Homecoming is very different kind of superhero movie. It’s different from the other adaptations of Spider man since it doesn’t deal with the same origin story of getting bitten by a spider and losing Uncle Ben. It’s also different from the other MCU movies. The stakes are lower, and even the villain doesn’t die in the end. This might even be my favorite Spider man movie and my favorite movie of the year so far.

Verdict:
+Tom Holland
+The Vulture
+Opening Theme
+/- Supporting cast
-Timeline error

Score: A

Despicable Me 3 review

The first Despicable Me film is one of my personal favorite animated movies, Despicable Me 2 and Minions however were disappointing. I’m noticing now that each movie has to do with Gru’s relationship with a different family member. The first one was about his relationship between him and his daughters Margo, Edith (my favorite), and Agnes. The second one was about him and his wife, and now this one is about him and his twin brother.

Well I can’t do a review of a Despicable Me movie unless I mention the mutated cheese puffs. The minions are ok in this one. They not that intricate to the story unlike Despicable Me 2. There funny at times but can get annoying too. Gru’s twin brother Dru is also just ok too. While he is annoying he’s not as annoying as it could’ve been. I do feel like I relate to Dru while my brother relates to Gru more.

The best thing about this movie is the villain. First off, Trey Parker the co-creator and voice of half the cast of South Park in a kids movies?! The design, the way he moves, and his accent make him very fun to watch. Though it’s odd hearing Trey Parker without other South Park co-creator Matt Stone.

The movie has problems. A big one is the all is lost moment. Dru get’s mad at Gru for deciding to return the diamond they stole from Bratt. The next scene is Gru about to leave when he finds out that Bratt was disguised as Lucy and kidnapped the girls. Gru then goes back to Dru, apologizes and go save the girls. It happens too fast and doesn’t leave much to feel for them. Another problem is had was that the movie gets rid of Dr. Nefario. It’s not like in Toy Story 3 where Bo Peep was mention to have been sold and its sad, this one just felt like it was used for a gag and not a funny one either.

Despicable Me 3 is better then 2 and Minions but not as good as the first one.

Verdict:
+Balthazar Bratt
-Rushed all is lost moment
-No Dr. Nefario
+/- Dru
+/- Minions
