Spider-Man: Homecoming review
Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can
MCU fans were mind blown when it was announced that Spiderman would be in Captain America Civil War. Like everyone I was excited. When we saw Civil War we were not disappointed. Tom Holland as Spider Man was great and we started to look forward to when he would get his own movie.
Tom Holland still shines as Peter Parker. His suit is still amazing and the scenes where he takes of the training wheels and finds out how much he can do is entertaining. This Peter Parker definitely feels more younger then Tobey and Andrew.
The Vulture is a surprisingly good villain. Micheal Keaton plays a lot of winged super figures. The design of his Vulture suit is great and the ways he uses it are creative. He also has a reason for what he is doing. Spoilers: Toomes turns out to be Liz’s (the girl Peter has a crush on) father. I remember watching this with my brother and he said before the reveal that he thinks he knows whats about to happen. When it’s revealed he laughed.
The supporting cast however is a hit or miss. Peter’s best friend Ned is very likable. Michelle while she’s not in it for much still gives some funny moments though is it me or is she a live action version of Janna from Star vs the Forces of Evil? Aunt May however feels very underwhelming because she’s not on screen as she should have and she doesn’t interact with Peter that much. Toome’s gang also feels weak and just there so that the Vulture can have a gang.
One problem I had though it is a very minor one was in the beginning Toomes decides to keep some of the alien equipment, it then shows text saying eight years later. I notice a error in the timeline. The Avengers took place in 2012 but this movie takes place in 2016 (2 months after Civil War) and it was clearly not eight years later. It’s mostly nitpicking though.
Michael Giacchino who is best known for composing The Incredibles composes the movie and his rendition of the old theme song is awesome. It has the epic feel that other superheroes movies have and it’s fun to listen to.
Spider man Homecoming is very different kind of superhero movie. It’s different from the other adaptations of Spider man since it doesn’t deal with the same origin story of getting bitten by a spider and losing Uncle Ben. It’s also different from the other MCU movies. The stakes are lower, and even the villain doesn’t die in the end. This might even be my favorite Spider man movie and my favorite movie of the year so far.
Verdict:
+Tom Holland
+The Vulture
+Opening Theme
+/- Supporting cast
-Timeline error
Score: A
