The Bob’s Burgers Movie review

I’ve said this before but since most animated movies are CGI now it always feels like a special treat to see a 2d animated movie on the big screen. The Bob’s Burgers Movie is about. Spoilers: Grover Fischoeder(who appeared in a few episodes) murdered a carny in order to frame Calvin Fischoeder and take over the wharf. I will admit having a murder story like this seems a bit too dark and kind of off brand for this show. Still this film is a lot of fun.

This film has the same heart as the show and embodies everything that’s great about the show such as the likable characters, hilarious comedy, touching moments, and even catchy songs. Sunny Side Up Summer is a great opening song and the song Lucky Ducks reminds me a lot of “I’ve Got a Dream” from Tangled which ironically takes place The Snuggly Duckling. I will admit there are references to a bunch of episodes that newcomers are probably not going to get but since I’ve watched the show for years it doesn’t bother me that much.

Most theatrical animated movies based on cartoons would usually have better animation and Bob’s Burgers is no exception. The animation here is surprisingly smooth and fluid. One of the studios animating this was Mercury Filmworks who was known for the Netflix animated series Hilda so that’s a plus for me. This was also Dale Baer’s who was an animator at Disney since Robin Hood 1973 last film he worked on before he died and I think this was a good send off for him.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie is the best theatrical animated movies based on an animated series since The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. I’d even say it’s just as good if not better than The Simpsons Movie. It has everything that makes the show one of the best Adult animated shows on Fox.

+ Fluid animation

+ The heart of the show

+ The songs

-A bit too dark

-References newcomers won’t understand

Score: A-
